350,582. Clockwork-actuated switches. BURWOOD, G. F., 16, Dulwich Common, London. March 18, 1930, No. 38620/29. [Class 38 (v).] Switches, latching and unlatching.-Switches which are operated by power - loaded mechanism arranged on operation of a controlling electromagnet to release a braking device simultaneously with the disengagement from a rotary control device of means controlling the motion of the power-loaded mechanism and allowing the mechanism to run for a predetermined time are provided with additional means coacting with the rotary control device to retract the electromagnet armature in a positive manner. As shown in Fig. 1, the attraction of the pivoted spring-retracted armature 2 to the electromagnet 1 on closing the switch 21 raises a breaking member 6 from a drum 9 and at the same time lifts a member 8 from a notch 12 in a rotary control device 10 controlling the movements of the power-loaded switch-operating mechanism. This mechanism is thus free to run for a predetermined period to effect the desired switching operation, and towards the end of this movement an inclined surface 16 (Fig. 3) engages a projection 14 on arm 13 to ensure the positive retraction of the armature 1 before the member 8 engages a succeeding recess 12 in the control member 10 which is simultaneously braked to hold up the motion of the mechanism until the electromagnet is subsequently energized. The controlled switches may be arranged as shown in Fig. 2, in which the driven shaft 11 carries a cam 17 with projections 18 which engage and close switch members 20 at each alternate energization of the controlling electromagnets.
