Abstract
658,681. Roller shutters. MATHER & PLATT, Ltd., and McCLENAN, F. Feb. 28, 1949, No. 5355. [Class 20(iii)] In an electrically operated rolling shutter having also hand operating means, means are provided which automatically disconnect and hold disconnected a clutch (through which hand operation is effected) when the shutter is being operated electrically, the clutch being at all other times held in its closed or service position. As shown the manual drive is from a chain c to a wheel d loose on the shaft b operating the shutter, the wheel carrying a half clutch e operated by a lever g pivoted at h. During electric operation, an energised solenoid k, m, swings the lever counterclockwise against the force of a spring i to hold the half clutch e out of engagement with the other clutch part f fast on the shaft. In this position the lever also closes a switch a in the motor circuit. When the motor is cut out by limit switches at either end of the movement of the shutter the solenoid is de-energized and the spring i causes the two clutch parts to engage and remain in engagement thereby leaving the manual drive coupled up. The solenoid k, m remains de-energized until the next operation of the motor control buttons.
