Abstract

663,633. Actuation of switches. MEILI, E. July 21, 1948. [July 25, 1947] No. 19555/48. Class 38 (v). [Also in Groups XXXVIII and XXXIX] The operation of a selected switch or contact unit in a remotely controlled selector device is determined by the duration of a control signal superimposed on the supply mains. In Fig. 2 the device comprises a moving disc S which is driven against the bias of a return spring F2 by a motor or other driving means so long as the control signal is maintained. Mounted on the disc S are two pivoted levers K, K<SP>1</SP> which are held against either stops B1, B<SP>1</SP>1 or B2, B<SP>1</SP>2 on the disc by springs F1, F<SP>1</SP>1. Pins St, St<SP>1</SP> on the levers project into the plane of fixed switch units, which have operating levers H1 ... H3 enclosed on one side by guide pieces Gl ... G3. On the receipt of a control signal the disc S rotates and the pins St, St<SP>1</SP> slide past the guides G1 ... G3. If, for example, it is desired to operate the first switch unit, the signal would be interrupted when the pin St has just passed beyond the guide G1. The spring F2 then turns the disc backwards until the pin St turns the switch operating lever H1, the disc now remaining at rest with the pin St abutting the lever HI. A further control signal may now be applied so that a further switch unit may be operated, or to return the lever H1 back to its original position by interrupting the further signal when the pin St<SP>1</SP> has passed beyond the guide G1. To reset the device, a comparatively long signal is applied, which causes the disc S to turn until the levers K, K<SP>1</SP> engage with fixed guides E, El, which move the levers apart so that they abut their stops B2, B<SP>1</SP>2, where the pins St, St<SP>1</SP> are out of their operative positions. Then on the interruption of the signal the spring F2 returns the disc S to its starting position where further fixed guides A, A<SP>1</SP> restore the levers K, K<SP>1</SP> to their original positions. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), a switch arm having a single lever K is used in place of the disc and the guide pieces are omitted, the lever K operating the switch levers on the return movement only, as above, or alternatively on both the forward and return movements. The device may be directly driven by an electric motor, which is energized during the receipt of the control signals, or alternatively a continuously running synchronous motor may be coupled electromagnetically to the device when the coil of the electromagnet is energized during the receipt of the control signal, but in any case the drive is controlled by a glow relay which is in a firing condition only during the receipt of a control signal, Fig. 3 (not shown) (see Group XXXIX or XXXVITI).
