Abstract

1,245,994. Actuators for stapling machines. SWINGLINE Inc. 14 Nov., 1968 [16 April, 1968], No. 54058/68. Heading B4C. An electrically driven actuator for a conventional stapling machine 15 comprises a solenoid 19 which, when energized by actuation of a switch 30, attracts armature 20 and causes forward movement of a roller 39 which falls on cam surface 14a to engage and actuate the stapling machine. The switch is closed by movement of switch arm 31 when a tripping arm 23 is pushed rearwardly either manually or by paper sheets to be stapled together engaging trip member 24 to the position shown. As the armature moves towards the solenoid 19 a roller (37) (Fig. 3, not shown) on a shaft 36 engages a spring element 43 which abuts the switch arm and moves that arm downwardly and out of engagement with the arm 23. The switch arm then returns to its normal position and the switch is opened, thus de-energizing the solenoid. Spring 40 connected to arm 34 which carries the roller 39 and to the solenoid assists in returning the roller to its initial position. When the tripping arm 23 is released it is returned to an initial position (Fig. 1, not shown) by spring 28.
