Abstract

1,272,295. Shearing device. DR-ING RUDOLF HELL. 28 May, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 27110/69. Heading B4B. A device for shearing off varying lengths, e.g. from :a web 5 of photographic material comprises a fixed blade 6 and a movable blade 2 of helical form mounted on a bar 1, rotatable in bearings 3, 4 and normally held in a position of blade disengagement, Fig. 1, by a spring 7, means 9, 12, 14 being provided temporarily to couple the bar 1 to a rotating disc 10 to perform a cutting stroke. The blade disengagement position is defined by impingement of a fin 18 rigid with the bar 1 against a stop 19, and to initiate a cutting action, a solenoid 14 is actuated moving a lever 9 inwardly against the tension of a spring 11. The lever is thus engaged by a follower 12 on the disc 10, causing the bar 1 to rotate, and the blades 2, 6.to co-operate, until the follower 12 disengages and the springs 7, 11 return the blade 2 and lever 9. A switch 15, triggered by a magnet 16 on the disc 10, ensures actuation of the solenoid 14 only when the follower 12 is in the upper half of its cycle. Control, Fig. 2 (not shown).-Cutting is initiated by pressing a control-key (20) or by means of a computer signal thus actuating a monostable tripping circuit (21), and operating a relay (22) so that when the switch 15 is triggered, a -second -monostable -tripping -circuit (23) receives a tripping pulse, and the solenoid 14 is energized. A further circuit, Fig. 3 (not shown), actuates an alarm signal, e:g. a lamp 39, or interrupts operation, in the event of an incomplete cutting stroke, this circuit being governed by the movement of the fin 18.
