Abstract

1,018,439. Ink-ribbon mechanism. ANELEX CORPORATION. Dec. 8, 1964 [May 27, 1964], No. 49827/64. Heading B6F. The ribbon feed to a pair of spools 24 is auto matically reversed by the operation of two electromagnetically operated clutches 14, 16 actuated by solenoids 40, 42 connected to the contacts 84 of a relay 82 which is energized by microswitches 74, 76 associated with a mechanism for sensing the decrease in the diameter of the ribbon on the spools. The sensing mechanism comprises a feeler 44 mounted to rock against both spools by the movement of a shaft 46 having a crank 48 and a pin 66 which is engaged by the arms 68 of a pair of clutch actuating levers 50 rocked by cams 54, 56 on a continuously driven shaft 32. The cams 54, 56 have a flat 58 out of phase with each other so that the levers are alternatively released and swing the shaft 46 and feeler 44 back and forth. When one spool is fully depleted the feeler swings to such an extent that one of the two micro-switches is actuated to either operate and hold the relay 82 in the case of the normally open switch 76 being operated, or release the relay in the case of the normally closed switch 74 being actuated to release the holding circuit for the relay.
