Abstract
1386252 Change-speed control CAV Ltd 5 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 15037/71 Heading F2D A driver-operable gear selector unit for controlling a remote multi-ratio gear-box is provided with means for preventing movement of the selector lever 13 into neutral or into an extreme position until the selector mechanism of the gear-box has effected the appropriate change in the gear-box mechanism. The lever 13 is pivotally mounted on a rotatable shaft 11 which is associated with switches, each operable to effect energization of the appropriate selection means of the gear-box, and on which is mounted a plate 15 having an aperture 16 formed with stops 18-20. A peg 21 located within the aperture 16 is secured to a plate on an armature 23 associated with a solenoid 25. As the lever 13 is moved away from the neutral position, a cam roller 26 on the peg 21 rolls out of a recess in the periphery 27 of the aperture, thereby moving the peg 21 against the action of a spring 24 to a position to intercept the stops, and the solenoid 25 is energized by means of a switch in the housing, thereby holding the peg in its intercepting position. When the appropriate gear ratio of the gear-box is correctly selected, the solenoid is de-energized, allowing the lever 13 to be moved to its extreme position in which the roller 26 engages in a further recess in aperture periphery 27. Similarly, the peg 21 is held in an intercepting position on movement of the lever 13 from an extreme position towards the neutral position.
