Abstract
627,187. Electromagnetic interrupters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 1, 1947, No. 21020. Convention date, July 24, 1945. [Class 38(v)] In an electromagnetic step-by-step switch with self-interrupter contacts suitable for use in automatic telephones, the driving electromagnet 27 has a main armature 10 which drives the pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 8, 4 and is coupled by a lost motion device to an auxiliary armature 22 which controls the interrupter contacts 20, 19. With the parts in the position shown the contacts 20, 19 are closed and the magnet 27 energized. The armature 10 moves up the pawl 8 slipping over one tooth of the ratchet wheel and a rod 12 being raised against the action of a spring 18 till, near the end of the stroke a shoulder 43 on the rod engages the auxiliary armature 22 and allows spring contact 20 to separate from contact 19. The electromagnet being now de-energized, armature 10 drops, the ratchet wheel is rotated one tooth and at the end of the stroke nut 23 engages armature 22 to move it back to the position shown in which the contacts are again closed.
