Abstract
224,991. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Zweigbergk. T. Sept. 11, 1923. Switches, partly electromagnetic.-Remote selective control of switch gear for example, the reverser forming part of an electric traction equipment comprises an intermediate member between the actuating member and the switch member, which is selectively positioned from a distance so that the actuating member has been effected, positively drives the switch member in the selected direction. As shown, applied to a reverser, the switch shaft 13 is rocked in one direction or the other by the thrust imparted to an intermediate member 1 by a motor-driven cam wheel 2. The intermediate member is pivoted on a lever 3 which by means of a roller 6 engages the cam wheel under the action of the weight 7. The free end of the intermediate member may be brought into engagement with either of two rollers 31, 32 pivoted on a sector 30 attached to the shaft. The selection is made by energization through the drivers train reversing switch of one or other of the solenoids 22, 23 which attract the armatures 17, 21 draw the sliding rod 18 to left or right. The rod acts through the lever 24 on the setting link 10 pivoted at 11 to the intermediate member. To change the reverser over from the position shown the solenoid 23 is deenergized and 22 energized so that the rod 18 tends to move to the left. Such movement is prevented, however, by a cam formation 12 on the reverser shaft which prevents movement of the intermediate member. The actuating motor for the reversing switch can only be energized after the line breaker 39, Fig. 4, has been placed in circuit by the switch arm 27 carried by the rod 18 engaging one or other of the fixed contacts 28 or 29 at the ends of its stroke. The circuit of coil 22 or 23 of the setting device is completed by the contact 42 or 41 respectively of the drivers reversing switch 38 when the controller 37 is moved from its off position to bridge contacts 40. Thus the setting of the intermediate, member 1 takes place before the motor commences to drive the cam 2 to produce the actuating operation.
