Abstract

In the process claimed in the parent Specification the stock solution of phosphates is prepared by dissolving each of the metals iron, aluminium, zinc and chromium in phosphoric acid (45 DEG Be) diluted to 12 DEG Be and then mixing the solutions. Chromium oxide may be used instead of chromium and an accelerator which consists of a solution of potassium bichromate, neutral potassium chromate and monobasic ammonium phosphate with or without naphthalene may be added to the mixture of phosphate solutions. The mixture is diluted to 3 DEG Be before use or it may be evaporated to dryness at a temperature below 90 DEG C. and the compound redissolved to form a 3 DEG Be solution. The articles to be rust-proofed are immersed in the nearly boiling diluted mixture for from 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
