Abstract

The wetting properties of alkali solutions for the treatment of natural and artificial cellulosic fibres are improved by adding thereto mixtures of phenols and hydrogenated phenols, together with aliphatic, aliphatic-aromatic, or ketone alcohols, instead of mixtures of phenols and hydrogenated aromatic compounds as described in the parent Specification. Alcohols specified are isopropyl, isobutyl, n-butyl, and amyl alcohols, benzyl alcohol and its homologues and substitution products, and diacetone alcohol. Preparations containing 88-98 per cent of phenols, and 2-12 per cent of hydrogenated phenols and alcohols mixed in various proportions are most suitable.
