Abstract
387,651. Preparation of paper pulp; preliminary treatment of materials. KELLOGG-DILS, Inc., 526, West 18th Street, Chicago, U.S.A. May 2, 1931, No. 13017. Convention date, July 26, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 96.] Woody materials, such as spruce chips, flax straw, and bagasse, are freed from lignine and rendered suitable for paper making by treating with an aqueous solution containing approximately 50 per cent by weight of caustic soda, at atmospheric pressure. The solution preferably also contains small quantities of sodium thiosulphate, sodium borate, and tri-sodium phosphate. Treatment is effected in half a minute in the case of bagasse, and up to 18 minutes in the case of spruce chips, at a temperature of 260‹ F.
