Diffusion apparatus for Liquids. - Osmotic diaphragms for the purification of caustic soda and like solutions are composed of cotton or other vegetable fibre which has been treated with a magnesium salt solution. This treatment may be preceded by treatment with caustic soda solution and is preferably followed by treatment with a solution of colophony or other resinous material which forms a colloidal compound with the magnesium salt. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the use of salts of other alkaline earth and earth metals as alternatives to magnesium salts. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
