Waterproofing. - Films, filaments, and other products composed of regenerated cellulose, cellulose hydrate, and cellulose ethers not resistant to water, are treated with a water-miscible liquid capable of swelling the cellulose gels &c. and at the same time with a water-immiscible plasticizing-agent whereby the material is rendered waterresistant, and is softened. In examples, viscose artificial silk is drawn through a formic acid solution of methylcyclohexyl adipate, and a cuprammonium cellulose foil is treated with a solution of diamylphthalate in formic acid.
