Description

Attempts have already been made several times to treat 'vegetable fibers and synthetic products made from cellulose with alkalis, such as those used, for. B. is exercised in mercerization, to be improved by additives. Soaps, Turkish red oils, alcohols and other substances are suggested for this purpose. However, these additives are of little effect; in order to achieve a satisfactory effect, therefore, disproportionately large amounts of the same must be used, making the operation uneconomical. So is z. To mercerising example, an addition of 20 to 3o 0/0 alcohol Mercerisierungslauge necessary to give a crude, unentschlichtetes cotton fabric without bellies in a usable way.

The new and surprising observation has now been made that with the help of small amounts of a mixture of phenols and hydrogenated phenols, that of the alkalizing liquid is added, a much faster and more uniform effect of the alkali on the fiber z. B. in mercerization is achieved. With the help of these additives, raw, undesized cotton fabrics can be mercerized without any previous bellies, where no uniform effect could be obtained without these additives.

Als hydrierte Phenole eignen sich. z. B. Cyclohexanol, Methylcyclohexanole, hydrierte Naphthole bzw. deren Gemische. B. cyclohexanol, methylcyclohexanols, hydrogenated Naphthols or their mixtures. Phenols come as phenols, then especially those Cresols or cresol mixtures and the higher

Homologen in Betracht.Homologues into consideration.

To implement the method hydrogenated phenols and 98 to 88 0/0 phenols are best mixtures of 2 to I2 ° / O .. But that's not to be said that mixtures whose compositions are outside these limits, would be useless.

The effect of these additives meets surprisingly already in relatively small amounts (about 1 to 2% of the mixture with respect to the weight of liquor) and is based on a quite unexpectedly strong ER (the network capability heightening of the vegetable fibers. This strong increase is to so unexpectedly, as neither the hydrogenated phenols nor the phenols alone bring about a noticeable increase in the wetting ability, it is only due to the mixtures of these compounds.

Alkaliphenolaten besitzen diePhenol on its own has also been suggested as an additive to mercerization liquors been. Phenol and cresols, however, have hardly any noteworthy wetting properties, and in the present process they or the alkali phenolates and cresolates only play the role of solubilizers for the hydrogenated phenols. To Another method is to use low molecular weight alcohols to get higher to keep molecular alcohols in solution in mercerization liquors. Compared to the phenols used in the present process or alkali phenolates have the

As a result their flammability, they are less reliable than 'it is with the mixtures of the pre-.

Die besondere Kombination von Phenol und Kresolen mit hydrierten Phenolen stellt infolge der erzielten Unschädlichkeit, Betriebssicherheit und Dauerwirkung gegenüber den älteren Verfahren zweifellos einen technischen Fortschritt dar.lying procedure is the case, and for permanent use they are much too fleeting, which is particularly important when working in the warmth. The effect of the known mixtures mentioned above exhausts itself much more quickly than it is with the mixtures because of this volatility is the case according to the present invention. The special combination of phenol and cresols with hydrogenated phenols provides operational safety due to the harmlessness achieved and long-term effect is undoubtedly a technical advance compared to the older processes.

Advertising to a mercerization of 36 0 Be, the 1 1 I 2 0 I 0 of a mixture of 9i ° / 0 cresol and 9 ° / o methyl cyclohexanolgemisch added '. An unsized, raw cotton fabric is so impregnated after a few moments that it sinks under; the fabric hovers for hours on the same mercerizing liquor without any additive, without being wetted.

A tissue made of viscose from different parts is pulled and squeezed through a sodium hydroxide solution of 20 ° Be, to which I 1 J 2 0 I 0 of a mixture of 90% cresol mixture and 10 ° / 0 methylcyclohexanol mixture are added. The fabric treated in this way is much more uniform dyeable than without this treatment.
