[Classes 36 and 38 (i).] A reservoir for feeding oil to electric cables comprises a rigid chamber containing a flexible walled chamber, one of the chambers being filled with oil and communicating with the cable, and the other chamber being filled with gas and a substance capable of absorbing the gas in quantities varying with the pressure. Gases and absorbing substances may comprise the following pairs : acetylene and acetone, colloidal silica and carbon dioxide, ammonia and water, butyric acid and carbon dioxide. Carbon black and coal are stated to be capable of use with many gases. The flexible walled cells may be placed within the cable or inside the joint sleeve.
