Abstract

In reducing tin from materials containing tin oxide by means of solid, liquid, or gaseous reducing-agents, for example in a rotary furnace, the temperature during the reduction is maintained below the melting-point of the charge and is afterwards raised to such a degree that a sintered or pasty slag is produced which envelops the reduced tin. The composition of the charge is adjusted to yield the required slag by the addition of acid or basic materials or coke or coal, and these materials may be added during or after the reduction treatment. The tin may be recovered from the slag by any suitable means.
