Abstract

349,185. Road vehicle opening tops. RAMSHAW, J., 592, Ormskirk Road, Pemberton, Wigan. March '14, 1930, No. 8235. [Class 108 (i).] A road vehicle opening top includes two or more panels slidable longitudinally and a housing for the accommodation of the panels one above the other and a common guideway is provided for the panels one of which is adapted to be elevated as it slides beneath the housing. As shown, the roof aperture is closed by two panels arranged to be retracted into a housing 6 the rear panel 2 on being retracted being caused to rise by means of rollers 7 engaging inclined guides 8 so that the front panel 1 may enter the housing below the panel 2 as shown in Fig. 3, the front of the panel 2 being held in raised position by a catch 9. The panels are provided with resiliently mounted rollers 3, Fig. 10, which run in a rebated guide 4 on the cantrails 5, and the panels may be locked in position by means of slidable locking plates in conjunction with headed bolts 26 and screws 27 whereby the panels are drawn down on the guides 4 and compress strips 22 of resilient material to render the conjunction of the parts watertight. The cantrails 5 and front transverse bar are provided with angular metal fittings 29, 31 respectively which co-operate with similar metal fittings 30, 32 on the panels while similar metal fittings are provided on the rear of the panels and on the front of the housing to exclude the weather.
