Abstract
Cellulose derivatives obtained according to the process of the parent Specification by treatment of cellulose pretreated with alkali with a heterocyclic compound containing one or more N : C-halogen groups, are further treated with a compound that contains a NH, OH or SH group, or a salt of such compound, for example, with water, alkali, alkali sulphides, and amines. As compared with cellulose, the products are more or less immune to the usual cotton dyestuffs; while the strong affinity to basic dyestuffs exhibited by the products of the parent case may be more or less replaced by a pronounced affinity to acid dyestuffs. In examples, cotton yarn, loose cotton or linters which has been treated with caustic potash and then with a solution of cyanuric chloride in xylene preferably in the presence of chalk powder, is treated with an aqueous solution of diethylethylenediamine or of ethylenediamine, or with a solution of aniline in benzene, or with aqueous sodium hydrosulphide solution. Mercerized or unmercerized cotton yarn after treatment with caustic soda and a solution of cyanuric chloride in xylene at 0 to 10 DEG C., is treated with an aqueous solution of piperazine. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of chloropyrididone and isatin chloride, in the initial treatment of the cellulose material. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
