Abstract

347,806. Valve gear; regulating. BOULET, G., 8, Avenue de Bellevue, Sevres, Seine-et-Oise, France. March 4, 1930, No. 7076. Convention date, March 30, 1929. [Class 7 (vi).] A pair of inlet valves C and a corresponding pair of exhaust valves (not shown) are actuated by two cam shafts A, B, which are adjustable angularly in opposite directions so as to vary the periods of admission and exhaust, particularly in aircraft engines. The shafts are adjusted by axial movement of their driving-pinions, which engage helical flutes on the shafts, and the arrangement is such that the periods of opening of the two inlet valves may be made to overlap more or less to vary the total admission period, and the overlap of the opening of the exhaust valves may also be varied to the extent of allowing re-introduction of exhaust gas on the suction stroke when the period of opening of the inlet valves is short. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), there may be a separate shaft to each valve, either with four valves as described above, or with two inlet and one exhaust valve. Also, instead of providing helical flutes on the shafts, the flutes may be rectangular and the gearing teeth helical. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
