Abstract

347,245. Gas turbines. MARGONI, C., 22, Via Roma, Trieste, Italy. Dec. 24, 1929, No. 39484. [Class 110 (iii).] The combustion chambers 9, 10 of a gas turbine are opened automatically to a pressure chamber 5 when ignition occurs by valves 15, 16 actuated by pistons 27, 28. Gases remaining in the chambers 9, 10 after discharge are passed by automatically operated valves 19, 20 to an exhaust 18, and may be used in the low pressure turbine 3. The turbines 2, 3, arranged on separate shafts 4, 41, have duplicate sets of blades so that they may be reversed. They are controlled by ported valveplates 38. If the pressure in the chamber 5 becomes excessive, a pressure-responsive device 45 interrupts the ignition. Turbines 8 driving auxiliaries may be supplied from the chamber 5.
