Abstract

346,642. Gas meters. ALLGEMEINE ELEKTRICIT€TS-GES., 2, Friedrich Karl- Ufer, Berlin. Aug. 11, 1930, No. 24064. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1929. [Class 54.] The gas meter casing c, d is divided into two measuring chambers a, b by the valve chamber e and a diaphragm f, and the valve change-over mechanism and the counting mechanism y are arranged outside the measuring chambers under a removable cover x. The central stiff part of the diaphragm is suspended from a pivoted stirrup f<1> so that the diaphragm is swung in pendulum fashion by the gas entering one measuring chamber through the valve g<3> or g<4> and leaving the other measuring chamber through the valve g<1> or g<2>. The diaphragm is connected by hinged links m, m<1> to a rocking spindle n which projects through a stuffing-box outside the chamber b and carries a projection p adapted, as the diaphragm approaches its end positions, to engage the forked end of a lever q and move it past its dead-centre position. The movement of the lever to one of two end positions is completed by a spring r. The movement of the lever q is communicated by a fork q<2> to an arm u<1> on a spindle u which projects through a stuffing-box into the measuring chamber b and carries an arm w operating the cross-bar w<3> connecting the valve rods w<1>, w<2>. The opening and closing of the valves is made more rapid by a tipping spring s, which is weaker than the spring r, engaging an arm t on the spindle u.
