Abstract

346,231. Mercury-vapour rectifiers. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. July 1, 1930, No. 19913. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] In a mercury vapour rectifier provided with arc-guiding sleeves within the rectifier and surrounding the anodes the sleeves are disposed eccentrically relatively to the anodes in order to prevent the arc from settling at one side of the anodes. In the example the eccent ic arrangement of the sleeves a with respect to the anodes b in the left-hand half of the Figure is such that planes laid through the axes of the sleeves and anodes intersect in the centre of the anode pitch circle, the arrangement on the right, applied to anodes connected in parallel pairs, being such that planes through the axes of the anodes and sleeves intersect short of the centre of the anode pitch circle.
