Abstract

287,926. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. March 30, 1927, [Convention date]. Low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-A mercury-vapour rectifier 2 operating in parallel with a D.C. machine 8 or battery is protected against reverse arcing from the cathode 4 to the anodes 3 by providing the cathode with a grid 5, the potential of which is, on the occurrence of current reversal, made equal or negative in relation to the anode at fault. The grid may be disposed within the cathode shield 9, which may 'be of metal, or, where the shield is of Insulating material, the grid may encircle the shield. In the case of glass bulb rectifiers, the grid may be in the form of a collar surrounding the cathode.
