Abstract

346,171. Lenses. WARMISHAM, A. and KAPELLA, Ltd., 104, Stoughton Street, Leicester. April 11, 1930, No. 11499. [Class 97 (i).] In a photographic or projection objective of the kind shown in Fig. 10 of Specification 168,923, [Class 97 (i), Optical systems &c.], comprising five members of which the first is convergent, the second and third are divergent and bi-concave, and the fourth and fifth are convergent, the first member and either or both of the fourth and fifth are made as convergent doublets, each of the cemented surfaces being convergent and concave towards the longer conjugate. The second and third members are unsymmetrical and present their faces of weaker curvature towards each other. The object of the invention is to increase the aperture and to provide improved correction of zonal spherical aberration simultaneously with improved approximation to flatness of field. Numerical data are given for two examples having an aperture of f/1, one being that shown and the other a combination in which the first and fourth members are doublets.
