Abstract
Anhydrous metallic salts of a dehydrating character, such as ferric, zinc, stannic, aluminium, or calcium chloride or potassium hydrogen sulphate, are added to synthetic resin varnishes, made from phenolic compounds, formaldehyde, and fatty acid esters such as castor oil, tung oil, or the like, and in particular to varnishes made according to Specification 329,313, [Class 95, Paints &c.], to accelerate the drying of the varnish. The metallic salts may first be dissolved in solvents of the ester or hydrogenated phenol type such as ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, amyl acetate, cyclohexanol, methyl cyclohexanol, mono-ethyl-ether of ethylene glycol, or the acetate of this ether.
