Abstract
345,339. Artificial hands. BLATCHFORD, C. D. W. and BLATCHFORD, W. A. D., 90, Clapham Road, Stockwell, London. Dec. 20, 1929, No. 39107. [Class 81 (ii).] A fitment such as a hand member is connected to an artificial arm by means comprising a plunger movable longitudinally in a tubular extension of one member detachably secured in a socket in the other member, and two levers, one fulcrumed in each member and each co-operating with one end of the plunger, one lever being attached to an appendage and the other to a movable part, such as a thumb, of the fitment, whereby the fitment can be detached without interfering with the manipulating means. A lever 5 is connected to a thumb 2, moving against the action of a spring 3, and contacts with a plunger 9 slidable in a tubular extension 10 of the wrist plate 11. A spring-pressed locking plate 13 engaging a circumferential recess 12 in the extension 10 may provide the detachable connecting means. A lever 15, connected to an appendage 19 operated for example from the shoulder, contacts with the head 14 of the plunger. A light spring 20 normally keeps the plunger flush with the end of the extension 10, and prevents damage or rattle when the hand is removed. In a modification the hand member carries the tubular extension which fits into a socket in the wrist plate.
