Abstract
348,296. Artificial arms. BLATCHFORD, C. D. W. and BLATCHFORD, W. A. D., 90, Clapham Road, Stockwell, London. March 20, 1930, Nos. 8996 and 22260. [Class 81 (ii).] In an artificial forearm member, wrist joint or hand member comprising separable parts, one part comprises a socket 2, Fig. 4, provided with a number of apertures 6 through which balls or like detents are pressed by springs to engage recesses in a plug on the other part so so to permit step-bystep angular adjustment. The joint is secured against longitudinal displacement by a latch 25 engaging a groove on the plug, the latch being actuated through a lever, not shown, by a knob housed in a bayonet-slot in the casing. The joint is positively locked by a pin 10 engaging one of the recesses in the plug. The pin 10 is provided with an extension pin 13 which can slide in a slot 15 and on which is mounted a roller 14 actuated by a lever 16 having a knob which is held in either extreme position by a bayonet slot in the casing. The lever actuating the latch 25 may be provided with a pin engaging the lever 16 so as to release the plug by a single movement. The socket 2 may be provided with means such as a spring-pressed plunger engaging the head of the plug member to prevent rattling. The locking pin may alternatively be operated directly by a button 33, Fig. 9, secured to an extension of the pin 32 and provided with a V-shaped extension 34 adapted to enter a recess 35 in the housing in the locked position or a pair of notches 37 in the withdrawn position.
