[Class 131.] Electric curling tongs are provided at the joint with two hollow members forming a box and housing a resistance in the heating circuit of at least one limb of the tongs, the resistance being regulated by a contact member actuated by a button or the like mounted on the outside of the box. As shown, the limbs 10, 11 of the tongs are carried respectively by hollow members 1, 2 secured together by a screw 3, the member 2 being provided with a cylinder 12, which acts as a collector, and contains an electrical resistance comprising a mica cylinder 7 on which is wound a wire 8. A rotatable sleeve operated by a button 4 carries a brush 13 which bears against a ring collector 14 in the member 1, and also a slide 5 bearing against a flexible plate 6, which is thus brought into contact with different parts of the resistance 8. The ends of the heating element 15 in the limb 10 are connected respectively to the collector 14 and to a brush 26 which bears on the collector 12, the ends of the heating element 20 in the limb 11 are connected respectively, to the resistance 8 and one wire 19 of the main lead passing through the handle 9, and the other wire 18 of the main lead is connected to the collector 12. The current thus passes through the wire 19, element 20, resistance 8, plate 6, slide 5, brush 13, collector 14, element 15, brush 26 and collector 12 to the wire 18. The button 4 may be provided with a pointer 27 operating in conjunction with a scale, and ventilating openings 32, 33 may be provided in the member 2 and plate 6.
