Abstract
343,727. Coal-cutting machines. HIRST, G. A. and INGHAM, C., Crescent Coal Cutter Works, Meadow Lane, Dewsbury, Yorkshire. Feb. 8, 1930, No. 4320. [Class 68 (i).] In a chain coal-cutting machine, the chain is built up of cutter blocks A and solid links C arranged alternately, and motion is transmitted to the chain by a sprocket wheel D with grooved or bifurcated teeth d which embrace the solid links and engage the ends of the cutter blocks, the latter being forked to engage the solid links. Each hinge of the chain has a bush a<2> passing through one prong a of the forked end of the cutter block and into the opposite prong, and secured by rivet a<6>, a pin &c. a<8> preventing rotation of the bush in the cutter block ; the links c may have detachable bushes surrounding the bushes a<2> The cutters are held in holes a<1> by set-screws and may comprise single and forked cutters used in conjunction.
