[Class 68 (i)] [See also Group XXV] In a cutter-chain for mining-machines comprising bit-carrying links and connecting links alternately arranged and with yoke and eye connections, a sprocket tooth receiving recess is provided in both types of link, and each eye has forward and rearward surfaces of equal radius to provide bearing for the sprocket teeth, while the yokes embracing the eyes have edges curved to a shorter radius so that a smaller amount of metal has to be removed at the base of each eye. Bit-carrying links 2 carry at each end yokes 4 embracing eyes 5 at the ends of connecting links 3 ; the links are connected by hardened pins with bores containing heavy wires 7 which are deflected into registering grooves. Each eye has opposite curved surfaces 5<a>, 5<b> of equal radius and forming the ends of the throats receiving the sprocket teeth 19 ; the curved ends 4<a> of the yokes have a smaller radius. The links have apertures 20, 26 permitting passage of dirt, and a cross-bar 21 in the bit-carrying links prevents entry of broken cutters and may be notched to receive the cutter. The eyes may be provided on the bit-carrying links and the yokes on the connecting links, or each link may have a yoke 4 at one end and an eye at the other end.
