Abstract

539,868. Driving and like chains. CINCINNATI MINE MACHINERY CO. April 8, 1940, No. 6334. Convention date, May 31, 1939. [Class 24] Relates to cutter chains for mining machines of the type having links with two side bars and connecting links positioned therebetween, and consists in means for preventing rotary and endwise movement of the joint pins relatively to the side bars. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the pintle 4 is cylindrical with a flattened side 5 and fits in correspondingly shaped apertures in the side bars. A groove 6 registers with grooves in the side bars to take a rivet with countersunk heads to prevent endwise movement of the pintle. Instead of a single rivet passing along the groove 6, two rivets may be driven from opposite sides into apertures 29, Fig. 15, in the pintle. Alternatively, the pintle may be made hollow with the bore tapering from each end, which is split and expanded by drift plugs. In another arrnagement, one end of the pintle is formed with a head and the other with one or two lugs turned up to engage the outside of the side bar.
