Abstract

341,972. Photographic developing apparatus. HÍRNICKE, P., 16, Novalisstrasse, Berlin. Oct. 26, 1929, No. 32556. [Class 98 (ii).] A method of treating photographic prints with a gas, such as ammonia, consists in subjecting the prints first to a vacuum to remove all air therefrom, and then to the action of the gas preferably under regulatable pressure. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a chamber 1, closed by a screwed cover 2 into which the prints are inserted, as on trays 14 having perforated walls. A motordriven suction pump 3 is connected to the rear end of the chamber through a valve 9, and a cylinder 7 containing the gas is connected to the front end through valves 5, 6 associated with a valve 8 opening to the atmosphere. The valves 5, 6, 8 may take the form of a three-way valve which in its third position communicates with the outer air through a time-control device. The treating operations consist in (1) opening valve 9 and exhausting the chamber by the pump 3 ; (2) closing valve 9 and opening valves 5, 6 to admit gas from the cylinder 7 ; (3) closing valve 6, opening valve 9 and removing the gas by the pump 3 ; and (4) opening valve 8 and ventilating the chamber by the pump 3. A modified plant is described provided with two treating chambers fitted with manometers, in which the sequence and duration of the various operations may be controlled by known automatic devices.
