Abstract
317,476. Rolb, L. J., (Assignees of Worrall, A. G.). Aug. 17, 1928, [Convention date]. Compound transparent sheets.-Glass and celluloid or like sheets are united by enclosing the juxtaposed sheets in a rubber or like bag 25, the mouth of which is clamped at 24 and exhausted through the tube 27 and pipe 31. The bag is then subjected to steam heating for 20 minutes in a closed vessel 2 having a bolted cover,3, the pressure being regulated by the inlet and exhaust valves 8, 11 to 5 lbs. per sq. inch, and the temperature being maintained at 250‹ F. The steam having been shut off by valves 12, 9, and the exhaust pipe 10 having been shut by valves 13, 21, compressed air is forced in to the chamber 2 by pump 14b from the container 14<a> at a pressure of 160 lbs. for 3 minutes and then released by the valve 17. Finally, cold water is allowed to circulate over the bag through pipes 18, 20. The bag is then opened and the edges of the compound sheet ground. One or more bags containing sheets may be inserted in the container 2 for treatment, the bags being supported on perforated trays 23 provided with hinged covers 24<c> for clamping in conjunction with plates 24<a>. Templets or packing strips 29 are inserted in the bag around the edges of the compound sheet. To facilitate insertion of the sheets in the bag they are laid between folded fabric 25a on a steel tray 23<a>, Fig. 4, which is withdrawn when the sheets are placed in the bag.
