Abstract
Sulphur compounds such as carbon bisulphide and carbon oxysulphide, are removed from industrial gases such as coal gas and hydrogen, by passing the gas in contact with piperidine or its homologues. The piperidine may be dissolved or suspended in water, pyridine or in organic solvents such as hydrocarbon oils, alcohols, ketones or it may be used together with ammonia and copper salts in the absorption of carbon monoxide from gases, or with gas oil in the recovery of benzol, or it may be used in the form of vapour. Piperidine compounds such as the carbonate may be used either in the dry state or in suspension or solution. Piperidine and sulphur compounds may be recovered from the complex compounds obtained in the purification by treating the latter in water to the action of carbon dioxide under pressure when piperidine carbonate is formed and the sulphur compound liberated; or the compounds may be decomposed by acid. The treatment of air is mentioned in the second Provisional Specification. Specifications 203,218 and 309,300 [both in Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], are referred to.ALSO:Piperidine and its homologues are used to remove sulphur compounds such as carbon bisulphide, carbon oxysulphide, from industrial gases such as coal gas and hydrogen. The piperidine may be dissolved or suspended in water, pyridine or in organic solvents such as hydrocarbon oils, alcohols, ketones, or it may be used together with ammonia and copper salts in the absorption of carbon monoxide from gases, or with gas oil in the recovery of benzol, or it may be used in the form of vapour.
