Abstract
341,308. Carding-engines; drawing- frames. LAURENCY, G. C., 30, Rue de la Mazerine, La Hulpe, Belgium. Feb. 13, 1930, No. 4911. [Class 120 (i).] In a carding-engine, fibres are drawn from a doffer A by a roller B having an elastic and compressible surface co-operating with a rigid polished surface C, the leading of which edge diverges from. the roller to provide an inwardly tapering entrance for the fibres and the fibres are taken from the roller B and parallelized by the needles or carding teeth of a roller D associated with a second similar surface C, the fibres as they clear the roller B being held by the teeth until drawn therefrom by another resilient roller E and surface C operating similarly to the roller B, each roller rotating more rapidly than its predecessor to effect the drawing action. Each roller comprises a shaft H, Fig. 3, bearing by its middle only on a cylinder J carrying the compressible material I so that the roller bears evenly on the recessed surface C and the forepart of the surface C, which is inclined to the vertical, diverges tangentially from the roller to prevent an accumulation of extraneous bodies at the points m, n, o, u. A roller F similar to the roller E feeds the fibres to muffs G, G<1>, combs M, N as described in Specification 339,848, [Class 120 (i), Spinning, Preparation &c. for], reciprocate between the rollers D, E and the rollers E, F respectively to divide the fleece into rovings, the combs being mounted on vertical rods L adapted to be raised by springs under the control of blocks h which engage blocks p on the rods and are reciprocated by links g connected to a rocking lever e. Upward movement of the combs may be prevented by interposing a pin t on a bar U in the path of a block r secured to the upper portion of each rod L.
