Abstract
340,510. Drying sheet material. COE MANUFACTURING CO., Painesville, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Moore, R. C.; 421, Bank Street, Painesville, Ohio, U.S.A.) Aug. 20, 1929, No. 25374. Convention date, Feb. 16. [Class 34 (ii).] A drying-chamber for sheet material is provided with a seal at each end of the chamber to maintain the pressure about the end substantially equal to the pressure within the adjacent chamber end. The invention is described in connection with a drier in which the drying medium is so circulated that there is a positive pressure with respect to the atmosphere at the discharge end and a negative pressure at the charging end. At the discharge end the seal comprises a section 13 located between the chamber and a cooling section 14 and is provided with rolls 15 in operative alignment with apertures 12 in the main chamber wall and rolls 10 inside the chamber for traversing the material. Sufficient air is drawn through a duct 17 and passed through ducts 19, 20 and manifolds 21, 22 for circulation in the section 13 to balance the pressure in the chamber and prevent leakage of drying medium therefrom. At the charging end of the chamber the seal is similar except that air is exhausted from the section to prevent the entry of air from the room into the chamber.
