Abstract

Loud - speakers; diaphragms. - In a loudspeaker or like sound reproducing device a diaphragm 7 of relatively large surface area is spaced apart from the front baffle or screen plate 1 by a fixed frustoconical sound channel 2 which at its narrower end is connected to the periphery of the diaphragm 7 and at its outer end to an opening in the plate 1, e.g. by a flange 3 disposed at right-angles to the axis of the diaphragm. A hollow conical body 8 is arranged coaxially with the sound channel 2 and connected thereto by distance-pieces 9. Preferably the body 8 and sound channel 2 are each constructed from a sheet of wood with a layer of flexible material attached thereto, and the body 8 is strengthened at its apex by a shaped block of wood 10. Additional support for the inner end. of the channel 2 is provided by a stiffening plate 4, which is attached at 11 to the frame of the loud-speaker unit 6 and is spaced apart from the front plate 1 by supports 5.
