Abstract

405,697. Loud-speakers. LEWIS, R. A., Melrose, Lake Road West, Cardiff. Aug. 12, 1932, No. 22633. [Class 40 (iv).] A combination loud-speaker comprises one or more electrostatically actuated diaphragms for reproducing the upper part of the frequency range which surround and form a baffle for one or more electromagnetically actuated cone diaphragms adapted to reproduce the lower part of the frequency range. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cone 5 of a moving coil loudspeaker is mounted in an aperture 4 in the electrostatic loud-speaker 1, 2 mounted on the framework 3. The edge of cone 5 is supported on a tube 6 of elastic material inflated with air or gas under pressure and attached to the edge of the opening in the fixed plate 1 by a rib or flange 6<1>. Figs. 4 and 5 show a modification in which six electrostatic speakers 2a, 2b, 2c are arranged around two moving coil speakers 5a, 5b. A sheet 8 may be arranged across the front of the framework 3 as shown in Fig. 5 and adapted to form a projection screen for talking pictures or television.
