Abstract

405,754. Loud-speakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and BRITTAIN, F. H., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Oct. 21, 1932, No. 29446. [Class 40 (iv).] A loud-speaker, preferably of the moving coil type, comprises a cone 1 formed with a tubular extension on which the actuating coil 4 is wound and closed at its apex by a piston diaphragm 7, the material of the extension and of the piston being thicker than that of the remainder of the cone so that the connection between the coil and piston is effectively more rigid than that between the coil and cone. With such an arrangement, the piston and cone vibrate as a single whole at low frequencies whilst at high frequencies the piston vibrates as a whole relatively to the cone. If desired, one or more corrugations may be made in the cone at 8 to diminish further the effective rigidity of the connection between the coil and cone. The cone is preferably horn-shaped as shown and the piston 7 is made conical for greater stiffness.
