Abstract
338,771. Broemel, L. E. Dec. 18, 1929, Metal-heating furnaces.-Bands or sheets are rolled out thin by taking the bar from the furnace A and passing it through rolls 1 - - 6 whence it goes to a traversable reheating furnace B or D at the dotted central position where it is rolled up on a rotating drum, with the help of driven press rollers B<1>, D<1> and a sliding piece C'. Furnace B or D is then moved sideways on rails and after heating, the drum and rollers are reversed to feed the sheet to rolls 7 and thence to stationary furnace F where it is again rolled up and reheated. Then the direction of rotation in furnace F is reversed and the sheet is fed back through rolls 7 to furnace B and so back and forth between furnaces B and F until the required thickness is obtained. Other furnaces D and E and rolls 8 act similarly to keep rolls 1 - - 6 going. Finally furnace B or D is moved aside as required to allow the sheets or strips to be wound up on reels C or allowed to cool in strips.
