Lighting burners by electric devices. - In an electric igniting means for gas-stoves and the like comprising a resistance wire which is brought to incandescence on the opening of the gas cock, a driving arm on the gas cock spindle is adapted to move a contact arm over a contact segment as the cock is opened and then, by means of a cam, to be disengaged from the contact arm which is automatically returned to the normal position. The resistance wire 10 is carried by a porcelain member consisting of two halves fixed together by screws 8, Fig. 5, and is connected with the switch by means of wires 15 in a protecting tube 14. The switch is housed in a steel box screwed to the gas supply pipe and has an axial hole for the passage of the gas cock spindle. which carries a rigidly mounted flexible steel driving arm 43 and a loosely mounted contact arm 24 carrying at its extremity a brass plate 34. A projection 38 on the contact arm is adapted to be engaged by a bent portion of tha end of the driving arm 43 and on the opening of the gas cock the contact arm is drawn over a brass contact segment 28 fixed to an insulating plate at the bottom of the box. The side of the box carries a cam 25 adapted to raise the driving arm clear of the contact arm which is then returned to its normal position by means of a spring-actuated device acting through a cable passing over a pulley 81, said device comprising a spring-actuated piston working in a cylinder 50 containing glycerine, the two ends of the cylinder being connected by a copper tube 55, the entrance to which is partially closed by a brass plate provided with a small hole. The apparatus may also be applied to a spirit stove.
