Waterproofing; proofing processes and compositions.-Wool and woollen materials are waterproofed by treating them first with an aqueous emulsion containing soap and an oil or fat of animal or vegetable origin, such as olive oil, then with a solution of salts of those metals, the hydroxides and carbonates of which are insoluble or only slightly soluble in water, such as aluminium formate, and afterwards heating to temperatures of 60‹ to 80' C. for a considerable time.
