Abstract

1472267 Chromium tanning and oiling composition SCHILL & SEILACHER 5 Nov 1974 [7 Nov 1973] 47709/74 Heading C6C A composition for use in the tanning, or retanning, and oiling of hides and pelts, is produced by emulsifying an aqueous chromium sulphate solution with an aqueous solution of an alkyl sulphonate the alkyl residue of which contains at least 8 C-atoms, heating the emulsion so formed and spray drying the heated emulsion to a powder. The powder may also comprise paraffin-based hydrocarbons having at least 8 C-atoms, or other neutral oils, a fatty alcohol polyglycol ether sulphate having 4 moles ethylene oxide, or a cationactive emulsifying agent and/or alkali or ammonium salts. Hides and pelts are simultaneously tanned and oiled by treating them in an aqueous solution of the above powder.
