Abstract
337,405. Sailer, W. April 25, 1929. Peroxydase, or peroxydase extracts, is obtained by treating vegetable substances containing peroxydase, such as embryos of rye, wheat, rice, maize, barley, &c., or parts of plants such as potatoes or beans, with water and allowing fermentation to take place in the presence of substances which in the solution form " buffer " substances, such as oxides, hydroxide, or carbonates of alkali, alkaline earth or other metals, e.g., zinc oxide, or metals not having a catalytic action. The solids are removed by filtration and the filtrate treated with a preserving agent such as alcohol, benzoic acid, or benzoic acid esters. Examples are given of the treatment of seed embryos of wheat, adding sodium bicarbonate, and of rye bran adding zinc oxide. Specification 250,907 is referred to.
