Abstract
527,000. Cultivating bacteria. BORINGHIERI, G. April 27, 1939, No. 12619. Convention date, April 28, 1938. [Class 81 (i)] [Also in Group IV] Bacillus Delbrucku is cultivated in a malt extract or sugary solution, the propagation being terminated while a high excess of sugar is still present and the product is then highly concentrated or dried. The malt extract may be of 12 degree Balling or 12 parts of dry malt extract in 100 parts of solution. The propagation may be effected at 50‹ C. for 12-24 hours. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that lactic acid may be prepared by cultivating the bacillus as described above and then sterilizing the solution to kill the organism. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
