Abstract
675,025. Micro-biological degradation of dextran. AKTIEBOLAGET PHARMACIA. Aug. 31, 1949 [Oct. 14, 1948], No. 22629/49. Class 81 (i). [Also in Group V] Dextran products suitable for therapeutic preparations are made by subjecting dextran to a degradation by the action of micro-organisms cultivated on a dextran-containing substrate, or enzymes of such micro-organisms, and interrupting the treatment at a point where a 4 per cent aqueous solution of the products shows a viscosity between 1.2 and 15 relative to water. Cellivibro fulva or an enzyme thereof may be used. The substrate in addition to dextran may contain sodium nitrate, dipotassium hydrogen phosphate and magnesium sulphate and may have a pH of 5.2. The process may be interrupted by grinding the bacteria in the culture medium or by heating to destroy the enzyme. The product may be purified by dialysis or by precipitation with alcohol. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, refers to the use of moulds, yeasts and other kinds of fungi as the micro-organisms. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
