Abstract
337,005. Galusha, A. L. July 23, 1929. Charging apparatus for gas producers comprises a feed-hopper 26 of large size, e.g. of sufficient capacity for a full days' fuel supply, which is elevated above the producer 15 to provide ample head room for operatives on the working platform 59 and from which the fuel passes by gravity to the producer through a number of vertical shoots 30. The hopper 26 communicates with a superposed storage bin 29 through an aperture controlled by a valve 28, similar valves 32, 33, 34 being provided to shut off the shoots 30 from the hopper 26 when the latter is being recharged from the bin 29. The shoots themselves are of sufficient capacity to maintain the fuel supply to the producer during this recharging period. The shaft on which the valve 28 is mounted is provided with segments which, by engagement with segments on the shafts of the shoot valves 32, 34, prevents opening of any of the latter valves while the valve 28 is open and also opening of the valve 28 while any one or more of the shoot valves is open. The valves are manually operated either by handles permanently secured to the shafts or by a detachable crank 70, Fig. 1, adapted for engagement with the lower shaped ends 61 of the shafts which project below the bearing plate 62. Distributing nozzles 35, having lateral branches a, b, c, Fig. 3, are telescopically mounted in the lower ends of the shoots 30 to provide an adjustment of the fuel level in the producer and consequently of the size of the gas-collecting space 18. A roof or shelter 64 for the protection of the operator on the platform 59, is secured to the feed-hopper 26. Specification 2917/00 is referred to.
