Abstract

Securing flywheels on shafts.-In the trans mission train from a prime mover to a gramophone turntable, a massive element smoothes out the relatively small vibratory variations in the driving effort by the effect of inertia and a resilient coupling smoothes out the relatively large vibratory variations, the resilient coupling being rigid when transmitting torques below a given amount. The drive from the prime mover is transmitted by a worm 3 and worm-wheel 4. The latter has two pins 5 passing through arcuate slots 6 in a flywheel 1. The upper face of the flywheel 1 has a circular channel 7 in which two pairs of blocks 8 are slidable, the blocks of each pair being forced towards one another and against stops 9 on the flywheel 1 by springs 10. The end of each block 8 adjacent each pin 5 has a semi-circular recess to clear the pins. For torques below a given amount the coupling transmits solidly, the blocks 8 remaining hard up against the pins 5. When the torque increases above the given amount the normal tension of the springs is exceeded and the coupling becomes resilient.
