334,802. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., Griffiths, L., and Morton, C. J., Nov. 29, 1929. Transformers. - An induction coil for internal-combustion engines is provided with a core 2 comprising two relatively movable parts in order that the self-inductance of the primary winding may be varied. The primary and secondary windings 2, 3'surround an iron wire core piece 1 from the ends of which sets of laminations 6 project radially, these laminations being secured in caps 5 of moulded insulation which close the ends of a tubular casing 7. A laminated member 8 adapted to bridge the sets of laminations 6 is secured between supporting lugs 9 externally of the casing, and the latter is adapted to be rotated within straps 10 so as to vary the gaps between the laminations 6 and 8, the extreme positions of the laminations 6 being indicated by full and broken lines respectively.
